Resin Bonded Sand Moulds

Description:

You mix a resin and a catalyst with DRY sand, forms a mixture similar to petrobond. You use this to ram up one side of your mold. After a period of time it sets up to a porous sand stone consistency [A lot like insulating fire brick]. You then turn the mold and repeat the process.

Pros:

    • Easier to touch up
    • Much easier to make multi part Moulds
    • Seems to get better detail
    • Mold can be made days/weeks before pouring
    • Makes very good cores
    • Vents and sprues can be molded separately and added to your mold separately. This way you can have tall sprues and vents without using a lot of sand.

Cons:

    • Sand is not as easily reusable
    • Cost is higher than green sand or petrobond
    • Mold is affected by moisture over longer term.
    • Working time of resin is a little short after mixing.
    • Mixing is a pain {No worse than mulling}
